In this session, hosted by garden historian Dr Francesca Murray, we are digging into the Edwardian era and the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement on Britain's gardens.
Explore the changing role of gardens in this period, the key influences within the movement, and examples of gardens that embraced the plants and features typical of this iconic style.
Drawing upon the beautiful RHS Lindley Collections, we will explore the relationship between the Arts and Crafts movement and nature, and the rejection of Victorian industrialisation.
Uncover how these ideals shaped the design of homes and gardens, and why they continue to hold aethetic and environmental relevance today.
It will be made up of a lecture by Francesca, followed by a tour of selected works from the RHS Lindley Library collections.
There will be regular breaks and light refreshments will be served, plus the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.
