About Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet is a ballet based on Shakespeare’s tragedy, reimagined by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. Set in Renaissance Italy, it follows Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet as their love develops against the background of family conflict in Verona.

Now in its 50th anniversary, this production combines the story’s romantic and tragic elements with Prokofiev’s score performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic. The production has been described by The Telegraph as “as vital, as alive and as stirring as can be”.

The ballet moves from first encounter to final tragedy, with themes of grief, revenge and violence woven through the story.

Duration: 2 hours 55 minutes including interval.

Before you book

Recommended for ages 10 and over. Patrons aged 15 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The performance contains strobe lighting and includes descriptions of violence.

No latecomers will be admitted, and there is no readmittance except during the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase. The production cannot guarantee the appearance of any specific actor due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.
