About This Event

A talk on sex-specific innate immune networks of the cystic fibrosis airway will occur at the Guy Scadding Building, Royal Brompton Campus, in London on 14 September 2026. The session features Dr Britto as a speaker and carries no entry cost.

Dr. Britto is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine (PCCM) at Yale University, School of Medicine, the Director of the PCCM fellowship Program, and the Associate Director of The Yale Adult CF Program. His research program investigates the role of airway immune cells in inflammatory signaling during host pathogen interactions, with an emphasis on mononuclear phagocyte communication in cystic fibrosis (CF). His laboratory applies a multidisciplinary approach to understand excessive inflammation in CF airways, focused on immune-epithelial interactions and respiratory infection. Dr. Britto performed the first single-cell CyTOF characterization of sputum immune cells in CF, followed by the first scRNAseq characterization of airway immune cells in CF. His work uncovered a dysfunctional spectrum of innate immune activation, maturation, and cell survival in the transcriptional programs of airway immune cells, likely to contribute to CF lung disease pathogenesis. He currently focuses on investigating the role of sex-specific immune transcriptional networks as determinants of CF pathogenesis and on dissecting the interplay of genomic factors, sex hormones, and CFTR modulators in severe disease phenotypes and therapy response.
