Sustaining Health Care & Reinforcing Resilience: Financial, Environmental, and Workforce Challenges European Health Policy Group meeting, 24 to 25 September 2026 London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, London The sustainability of health care systems is under strain due to global economic uncertainty, growing demand associated with demographic and environmental changes, and the rising costs of new and innovative therapies. None of these challenges can be addressed in isolation. The dimensions of sustainability are deeply interrelated, and progress on one front can easily displace pressure onto another. This meeting brings together research that studies sustainability both individually and at its intersections. Eight selected papers address hospital-insurer contracting, surgical productivity, community pharmacy policy, artificial intelligence and hospital employment, workforce development and skill mix, climate adaptation governance, environmentally sustainable medicines systems, and institutional fragility in high-income health systems. Authors are based in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Canada, and the United States. The programme opens with a keynote address on the Thursday afternoon. Following EHPG tradition, each paper is introduced by a discussant rather than by its authors, with most of the session time reserved for author responses and open discussion. The EHPG is a multidisciplinary network of over 400 members dedicated to fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange through comparative analysis of health system change in Europe and beyond. The group meets twice a year. The meeting begins at 13:00 on Thursday 24 September and closes at 14:00 on Friday 25 September. A conference dinner will be held on the Thursday evening. Places are limited and registration is required. The meeting is hosted by the Department of Health Policy and LSE Health. For queries, contact Rocco Friebel ( r.friebel@lse.ac.uk ).
