Our September Book of the Month is the perfect back to school, back to university read… The Eights by Joanna Miller 🎓🍂📖
Oxford, 1920. For the first time in its one thousand year history, Oxford University officially admits female students. Burning with dreams of equality, four young women move into neighbouring rooms in Corridor 8. Beatrice, Dora, Marianne and Otto find themselves thrown into an unlikely friendship! 💛
Each woman arrives at Oxford with her own story, secrets and dreams. Dora was never meant to go to university, but arrives in place of her brother and fiancé, both lost on the battlefield. Beatrice, daughter of a famous suffragette, sees Oxford as a chance to make her own way. Otto is returning to her socialite lifestyle after serving as a wartime nurse, while Marianne, the quiet and clever daughter of a village pastor, carries a shocking secret of her own.
Set among historic spires and in the long shadow of the Great War, The Eights is a story about female friendship, ambition, finding your people and navigating a world that wasn’t always ready to make space for women. 🎓👯♀️
It’s the perfect September read, bringing all the feelings of fresh starts, new friendships, university life and that back-to-school feeling, with a cosy autumnal atmosphere to match... 🍂📚☕️
