About The Seagull

The Seagull at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is Anton Chekhov’s twentieth-century classic. Set in a house by a lake, it follows an actress, her lover, her playwright son and an aspiring performer.

What begins as a play within a play develops into a story about art, ego and love. As the evening unfolds, the focus turns to what is left behind when the curtain falls.

Key facts: Chekhov’s first of four major plays is inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Caroline Steinbeis directs and Rory Mullarkey translates, returning to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse after Three Sisters.
