The band's early music was primarily pop rock and alternative rock, and since 2014 they have incorporated electropop and synth-pop elements into their sound. Before adopting the name Tokio Hotel, the band recorded a demo album under the name "Devilish" and had a contract with Sony BMG Germany, which was later terminated.
