In this spellbinding collaboration, Wise Woman and an acclaimed ensemble of guest folk musicians bring the wild women of European folklore to life in an enchanting evening of music and spoken word. ‘Foxfire: Songs of Shapeshifting Women’ is the new album based on the work of bestselling author and folklorist Sharon Blackie.

Fusing Wise Woman’s original songs with spoken word and dazzling soundscapes drawn from the pages of Sharon Blackie’s Foxfire, Wolfskin & Other Tales of Shapeshifting Women, this concert and album launch conjures mythical retellings of female transformation, regeneration and wildness from across the UK & Europe.

Bewitching vocal harmonies and an epic array of folk instruments invoke the world of the Cailleach, ancient Celtic goddess, as she sets off on her journey to rejuvenate the Earth. But as mankind grows ever more uncaring, this time she wonders, should she? Perhaps she is finally too old for this now. But then she thinks of the fox spirit who carries a hope-giving secret, the haunted princess who roams the mountainside, and the wolf woman seeking her stolen skin… and who would know their stories if the Cailleach gave up?

Co-produced by Sounds Just Fine of the phenomenally successful The Spell Songs, Foxfire: Songs of Shapeshifting Women invites listeners on a snow-covered quest to rediscover the wildness & wilderness inside all of us.
