Autumn foraging walk in People's Park with Hitchin forager Jane Simmons

Foraging walk in People's Park

Experienced forager Jane Simmons (aka The Hitchin Forager) will lead a 2-hour guided morning walk through People's Park, followed by a 1-hour taster session in a nearby back garden.

During the walk, we'll:

learn how to forage safely and legally

identify both edible and poisonous plants as they appear en route

discuss recipe ideas and how to incorporate wild ingredients into your everyday cooking

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing, some of the paths in People's Park are quite steep.

Food at the taster session will be mostly vegan.

Tickets

Adults: £12

Children: under 16's go free, but please book a free child ticket. Adults must supervise their children.

Meeting point

People's Park is a large park with several entrances. We'll meet at the green flag near the community orchard on the Havelock Road side of the Park. You'll find the flag post along the diagonal path across the park between Kingston Road and Havelock Road/corner of Clarendon Road.

Parking

There is a small car park off Havelock Road by the playground, but spaces tend to fill up. Kingston Road has free on-street parking, but again, spaces are limited. Kingston Road will be also be where we'll end the walk with the taster session.

Footwear and accessibility

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. This is a slow-paced gentle walk, but some of the paths in People's Park are quite steep.

If you have an access need, please contact us before you book. We may be able to tweak the route to make it navigable with a mobility scooter, for example. The back-garden for the taster session is accessed via 6 steep steps.

Weather

Should heavy rain or storm be forecast, we may have to postpone the walk. We'll contact all ticket holders should this be the case. If it's just a drizzle, please bring a raincoat or umbrella.

This event is organised by Edible High Town and Friends of People's Park.
