We will be working in the grounds of Berkhamsted Sewage Works. You have to access the sewage works via Bulbeggars Lane off the London Road. Do not follow your satnav to the Little Heath Lane entrance as there is no access. The nearest postcode is HP4 2RS and parking is available -this is the car park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/g7Yc9jJVpNnqnwBq7). W3W:baked.scan.latest. Please park considerately. We will finish at approximately 2pm.

Please can we ask everyone to arrive on time to ensure you do not miss the health & safety and task briefing. If you are late and the session has already started, you may not be able to join. Thank you.

The Task:

Today we will be building a hibernacula - shelter and refuge for wildlife including amphibians, reptiles, insects, and bats to survive the cold winter months.

We will also be cutting, raking and checking the health of trees.

Timings (please note these timings are approximate):

10.00: Meet on site for task and safety briefing, please don’t be late!

10.15: Work begins

11.30: Tea & coffee break

13.00: Lunch, please bring your own

15.00: Time to head home, thanks for all of your hard work!

What to bring:

Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.

Long trousers are advisable as there is thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers.

Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain. You may need a hat and suncream if it's sunny.

Please bring plenty of fluids and a packed lunch. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.

Please note:

Biscuits are served at all Chiltern Rangers sessions. Please advise if you have an allergy.

Sometimes there is a need for us to use power tools that can be noisy.
