Practical garden sessions for home ed and young children: plant, explore science, create nature crafts & grow together outdoors We're back at Within the Walls Garden Project for another fun session for home educating families and children under 5. These fortnightly sessions offer children the opportunity to experience the changing seasons through practical gardening, science exploration and creative activities in a beautiful working garden setting. Our late summer / early autumn seasons will be a mixture of bed prepping, collecting seeds, looking after wildlife and getting involved in some nature crafts. A Practical, Hands-On Experience Every session includes real gardening tasks appropriate to the season. Children will: Sow, plant and grow their own crops Learn how soil works and why it matters Explore composting and sustainability Observe insects and pollinators Harvest and taste produce (when in season!) This is not a classroom-style lesson — it’s active, muddy, practical learning in a real garden. Science in the Soil We’ll cover key science concepts in an engaging, age-flexible way: Plant life cycles Photosynthesis (made simple and practical!) Soil ecosystems and microorganisms Weather and seasonal patterns Food chains and biodiversity Older children will be able to go deeper into scientific understanding, while younger ones learn through sensory play and guided discovery. Creative Nature Crafts Each block will also include seasonal crafts such as: Botanical art Nature journaling Seed saving Simple eco-crafts using natural materials Mixed Age Friendly These sessions are designed specifically for home educating families with a range of ages. Activities are adaptable, collaborative and supportive, making it ideal for everyone to learn together. Why Join? ✔ Build confidence outdoors ✔ Develop practical life skills ✔ Connect science learning to real life ✔ Encourage curiosity and independence ✔ Meet other home educating families Spaces are limited to maintain a calm, high-quality experience. Tickets only need to be booked for children. Under 1's are free. We can’t wait to grow with you this spring 🌷
