Join students and residents for an afternoon of conversation, local history, botanical creativity at Hulme Community Garden Centre

Common Ground Manchester brings together students and residents from Hulme, Moss Side and across Manchester for an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the area's history, meeting new people and exploring what we can do to make our neighbourhoods stronger, more connected places.

Hosted at Hulme Community Garden Centre, the event combines conversation with relaxed, hands-on activities. You'll have the opportunity to explore photographs of Hulme and Moss Side through the decades, hear different perspectives on how the area has changed, take part in our community garden project and create your own botanical print.

Whether you've lived in Manchester for decades, have recently moved here, or are a student beginning to call the city home, Common Ground is about discovering what we share

What you’ll be doing

Botanical print making – get creative with a nature-inspired activity.

The Peterloo institute has funded a bench for the garden centre in which attendees of the event can decorate

Hulme & Moss Side through time – explore historical photographs from the 1960s to today.

Community conversations – share experiences and ideas about living, studying and spending time in the area.

Meet your neighbours – an opportunity for students and longer-term residents to meet outside their usual circles.
