Saan1 in Manchester will run a workshop on 22 October 2026 combining found poetry with collage to explore how words and pictures tell stories. Participants will learn to curate poems from existing media and create visual collages.
This workshop is about the creative play of words and pictures - combining found poetry with collage. All welcome!
Found poetry is a beginner friendly, accessible way to curate and write poetry with existing words from magazines, old books and other sources of media, sometimes used as a way to combat writer’s block. The session will provide some guidance on how to experiment with word selection from existing sources, to make poems. We will then use our poems and words to inform joyful and beautiful visual collages based on the selected words and poems. This will be an opportunity for participants to explore how words and pictures tell stories.
All equipment will be provided, but to make the experience more personal, you are welcome to bring your own personalised analogue ‘junk’ such as bus/train tickets, receipts, stubs, documents, photos, film, postcards, old notes, letters, food wrappers - anything from your daily life.
