Anthony Barnish and James Carmichael of Absolute Onions lead an 8 week course learning Long Form Narrative Improv.

This course is an introduction to performing long form stories in improv. Focusing on the story spine, we cover methods for building your characters and their world. Then we look at the best ways to keep the plot on track and ways in which you can support the story and each other. Finally, we’ll concentrate on how to finish the narrative in a way that will satisfy an audience. By the end of the course, students will be able to perform a 20 minute-long narrative piece without direction.

The course takes place each Monday from 5 October to 23 November 2026, with a performance showcase show at the end of the course, taking place at Improv Wednesdays on Wednesday 25 November 2026.

About Barnish & Carmichael:

As well as performing with Absolute Onions, Anthony and James perform in their own two person improv show Barnish & Carmichael. They’ve taken this show to Edinburgh Fringe, Leicester Comedy Festival, Brighton Fringe and the Short Notice Improv Festival in Oslo, amongst others.

They have years of experience facilitating improv workshops and courses; teaching with ImproQuo, at The British Improv Project and the Short Notice Improv Festival. Their courses have led to the creation of a number of new troupes who now perform regularly as well as helped existing groups to continue to develop.
