Day Time Disco returns to the Joshua Brooks basement with Michael Gray, back by popular demand after his April session in the same room, this time for an extended set. Joining him is Ethan Gray. From four in the afternoon until half nine, this is house and disco played properly, with the night still ahead of you when it wraps.

Gray has spent more than three decades shaping British dance music. One half of Full Intention alongside Jon Pearn, he built a remix catalogue that runs through Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez, Ultra Nate and Frankie Knuckles, and earned a Grammy nomination for the duo's rework of George Michael's Amazing. Under his own name, The Weekend landed in 2004, reached number seven on the UK singles chart and topped the UK dance chart. Two decades on, it still does what it always did.

The current run is the stronger story. He relaunched his solo project in 2018 with a sharper disco focus, built Sultra Records into a home for soulful house and disco-led productions, and was named Traxsource's number one artist of 2024. His third album You & Me arrived on Sultra in May 2026, bringing together Chicago house figure Mike Dunn, Tania Foster, Phebe Edwards, Kelli Sae, Dyanna Fearon and Bran Mazz across a bright, song-led house record.

Sultra is the thread through it all: label and party series, both pulling in the same direction. Soulful house, boogie, disco and records built around real songs rather than disposable drops. That is the energy coming back to Princess Street.

Ethan Gray is where that thread goes next. Michael's son, raised around the records and the studio, now finding his own way through the same music. A father and son on the same bill is a rare thing to catch in a room this size, and it says something about how this music gets handed down rather than just played.

The Joshua Brooks basement suits this music better than most rooms in Manchester. Low ceilings, bricked arches and a Void Acoustics rig that carries warmth and low end without losing detail. For music built on live drums, strings, basslines and vocals, that matters.

Soulful house, nu-disco and boogie in a Manchester basement, finished before most clubs have opened their doors. See you down the front.
