Join us for our monthly Saturday Photo walk around The Northern Quarter & Ancoats - learn skills, have fun & meet others in our community
Join us at 10:45am on Saturday October 3rd, outside our Leica Store Manchester shop for the second walk in our new monthly series of Saturday Morning Photowalks, which take place on the first Saturday of every month.
Please come along with any camera that you have - any compact or SLR camera, digital or film, all are welcome regardless of your camera brand!
Our focus for this walk will be the composition of dynamic street scenes that convey the mood of the day and capture the evolving dynamics of this once industrial area as it grows and develops into Manchester’s modern creative hub.
Good composition and choice of aperture will be essential for your photographs to capture the vibe and activity of this area. Your photographs should convey the context of the streets that we will find ourselves exploring, whether that be the creative reflections held within a shop front window, busy streets scenes or the rich street art and graffiti that decorates the streets and buildings found within Manchester's Northern Quarter. This area is often busy with street performers and skate boarders who can sometimes be seen presenting their art and stunts on the narrow streets - giving us lots of opportunities for some stunning images along this route.
After exploring this area we will head the short distance north towards Ancoats, where we will explore the traditional red brick terrace houses found on Anita Street before heading towards the old mills and factories around Radium Street - home of the famous Sankeys Soap factory.
This area can appear both modern and timeless, so we will be looking for scenes that capture this mood, whether that be the old mill buildings or the contrast found within the old and newer more modern developments being built within this area of the city.
The mood here is calmer than that of the Northern Quarter, allowing for a more careful and planned street documentary style to be explored.
No matter what camera system you use - whether film or digital, all are welcome to join us on our walk - no Leica is required.
However, a camera equipped with a standard zoom (24-70mm) or a wider prime lens (28/35mm) may be useful in order to capture street scenes and the industrial landscapes of this area.
All ages and abilities are welcome but please do dress according to the Manchester weather and please be aware that we will be walking a good distance from our store.
