About This Event

“The Marauders Theatre Company return to the King’s arms celebrating the 20th anniversary of Mark Ravenhill’s seminal work, ‘Pool (No Water)’ The play focuses on professional jealousy, self worth, guilt vs vindication, and at its heart, a group of artists trying to tear down their successful colleague and (supposed) friend. The Marauders are pushing this one step further- with their all male cast portraying the struggling artists, but the successful artist at the center of their hatred being portrayed by a woman- just how do the echo chambers of modern society make men feel simultaneously superior and inferior, and feed into toxic/hyper masculinity? Partnering this play are a selection of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. These stories, modernised, take a selection of Greco-Roman myths whereby a change is forced on an individual by either their peers or the gods because of hubris, vengeance, or jealousy. As each of these individuals is torn down, an audience must ask, alongside the woman in Pool (No Water) whether or not this is justifiable?”
