About This Event

Rebel Book Club Manchester will explore the theme of Extreme Dreams on 27 October 2026, featuring Nimsdai Purja's book "Beyond Possible". The event will discuss Purja's remarkable achievement of summiting all fourteen of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in under seven months. Ticket prices vary and include access to the book club.

Join us for RBC's October event as we explore this month's theme, Extreme Dreams, via Nimsdai Purja's book, "Beyond Possible".

About the book:

Nirmal Purja set out to summit all fourteen of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in under seven months, a feat most considered impossible given the previous record stood at nearly eight years. A former Gurkha and UK Special Forces soldier, he brought military-grade resilience and self-belief to the death zone. This is a breathtaking account of what happens when someone refuses to accept the word "impossible."

Why we chose it: “Whether or not you are a lover of the mountains, you will marvel at his tenacity, his fearlessness. No one can fail to be inspired by what he achieved.” - The Times

Your host for the evening

Omar Latif

Omar is the founder of an AI startup and also pursuing a PhD in Behavioural AI. One big reason Omar joined RBC is to get away from academic literature, gain knowledge in areas outside of his interests and to have engaging conversations with the awesome community.

There is a clear alliance with the philosophy and taste of RBC as Omar has already read 70% of the books from the Rebel Book Club library!

Sarah Irving

Co-host Sarah is a born-and-bred Northerner working in a cat-tech startup (yes, really!), while also creating walks for another start-up. She’s also a cat sitter and should probably find time to rest.

She joined Rebel Book Club after a long search for a non-fiction book group, somewhere she could chat about ideas that broaden her worldview and meet new people. She loves all kinds of non-fiction and is always up for recommendations to add to the ‘to be read’ pile.
