In the Spanish Learners’ Reading Club, we will round off the year in December with a selection of short stories centred on Christmas. Authors from different countries explore the festive season through stories and reflections set amid family gatherings, celebrations, and the traditions that accompany this time of year.
We will read texts by Juan José Millás (Spain, 1946), Samanta Schweblin (Argentina, 1978), Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia, 1928–2014), Juan Bosch (Dominican Republic, 1909–2001), and Sara Mesa (Spain, 1976).
The Spanish Learners’ Reading Club at the Instituto Cervantes Manchester Library is intended for non-native speakers who would like to gradually explore Spanish-language literature in a relaxed and friendly environment and benefit from conversation suited to their level.
The texts, originally written in Spanish, are selected according to the participants’ level of language proficiency.
The reading group is led by Luz Comendador (librarian), with academic support from Ana Valbuena (teacher at the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester).
Suitable for intermediate students at B2+
Participants will receive the texts from our library so they can read them in advance.

En el Club de Lectura para Estudiantes de Español cerramos un año de lecturas compartidas con varios relatos en torno a la Navidad. Autores y autoras de distintos países y momentos abordan las celebraciones navideñas a través de historias y reflexiones que transcurren en medio de las reuniones familiares, festejos y tradiciones que llegan con estas fechas.
En diciembre, leeremos textos de Juan José Millás (España, 1946), Samanta Schweblin (Argentina, 1978), Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia, 1928-2014), Juan Bosch (República Dominicana, 1909-2001) y Sara Mesa (España, 1976).
La moderación del club está a cargo de Luz Comendador (bibliotecaria), con la coordinación académica de Ana Valbuena (profesora del Instituto Cervantes de Manchester)

Los textos serán proporcionados a los inscritos en la actividad por nuestra biblioteca para que puedan leerlos con antelación.
