Walking with Women: Understanding experiences of child removal is a training session set for 7 December 2026 at The Pankhurst Centre in Manchester. This full-day training aims to equip practitioners with the skills to support women affected by trauma and loss due to child removal. The session will focus on understanding the impact of domestic abuse and developing a trauma-informed approach.
Join us for a full day training to understand how to better support women with experiences of trauma, loss and recovery after child removal.
We know child removal can have a devastating and long-lasting impact, resulting in complex grief, shame, trauma and loss of identity. Women are disproportionately affected, often in the context of domestic abuse, coercive control, mental ill health and housing instability - yet many receive little support after their children are removed.
Drawing on the expertise of REFRAME - a unique specialist service supporting women who have experienced multiple child removals, these trainings will help practitioners understand the impact and how to support those affected better.
You will learn how to challenge unconscious bias, explore the effects of domestic abuse on maternal identity, and develop a practical, trauma-informed approach to support recovery and identity rebuilding.
Feedback from previous trainees:
"Great Course – lots of ideas to take with me"
"Fantastic! Very engaging and informative"
"It's always good to re-look at what we've learnt and take a step back and hear other experiences, tactics and professional input. I really enjoyed the course. It's given me a deeper understanding"
"Very informative, gives you a better insight in breaking stigmas around children being removed from parental care"
