The BIS in Middlesbrough will host a forthcoming workshop on 18 October 2026, guiding participants through the foundational techniques of silversmithing to craft sterling silver bezel settings. Priced at £70.00 per attendee, the session enables individuals to leave with their own handmade jewellery pieces while mastering essential skills in setting gemstones or sea glass. Organised by various instructors, this practical class offers a focused opportunity to engage directly with traditional metalworking arts within a dedicated venue.
Learn the fundamental silversmithing skills required to make a sterling silver bezel setting - leave with your very own handmade jewellery.
Beginners silversmithing class
Come along and make a sterling silver pendant necklace with a bezel set gemstone or sea glass. During the class, you will learn how to pierce, form, polish and solder metal. You can choose from our available genuine gemstones or sea glass collection on the day. If you'd like, bring along some of your own pieces and we can see if they're suitable. We will have our collection available which has either been selected for its shape or altered to suit the setting type. We finish up the class by setting your stone in your handmade setting and polishing it to a high shine.
All materials, and refreshments are included!
This workshop has limited spaces meaning each person will have 1:1 time with the tutor and particular attention can be taken when using the blowtorch- this is great for those of you who might find heat work a little scary!
