The READI Day Intermediate for Nurses and ODP will be held on Friday 25 September 2026 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, with registration opening at 8.15am. This free event is tailored for healthcare professionals aiming to enhance their expertise in the stabilisation and preparation for transfer of critically ill children. This booking is for Nursing Staff and ODPs and other Allied Health Professionals. If you are a Medic or Nurse Practitioner please use "READI Day Intermediate- Medic" booking.
Doors open at 8:00am to start promptly at 08:30am. The day will finish at 1730 at the latest. A timetable will be sent out prior to the event.
This day is designed to prepare senior clinicians and allied health care professionals in the stabilisation and preparation for transfer of critically sick children. The day is taught by experts with experience in stabilisation and transfer of paediatric patients. There will be some interactive workshops structured to help you learn in an engaging way and Sim training will be used to bring the learning together before the end of the day.
This day is particularly aimed at senior nurse’s/ODPs (1-2years experience), Paediatric Consultants and trainees, Resident doctors, Nurse practitioners or any medical and allied professionals involved in stabilisation and transfer of Paediatric patients, who feel that they would benefit from this day.
In order to keep this day free food and coffee cannot be provided, however, time will be provided to buy these from the hospital site if need be.
What to bring and Wear
· Wear loose comfortable clothes
· bring a water bottle
· note pad and pen
Public Transport
By Air Approximately 15 minutes’ drive from Newcastle International Airport.
By Metro The closest station to Royal Victoria Infirmary is Haymarket Metro Station which is a 7 - 10 minute walk.
By Train Newcastle Central Station is20 minute walk
By Bus Interchange at Haymarket for most local services
Parking
The Claremont multi-story car park does provide on site parking but it can be difficult to get a space and is expensive. If you have time, park at St James football ground and walk the 10 minutes to the RVI.
All the car parks will require payment of varying price.
Directions
The easiest way to get to the Education centre is to enter the hospital via Peacock Hall and pass straight through to the new part of the building. The Education Centre will be on your right opposite the Staff Bistro.
Alternatively head towards the main entrance (Not ED entrance)of the Great North Children's Hospital (GNCH) and go up to level 2 on the escalators. Walk into the Resource building via the long correidor. The Education Centre will be on your left opposite the staff Bistro.
Go into the Education Centre and down the stairs. Follow the signs to the sim lab, the READI day is held in the cluster of rooms at the end of the corridor- Good luck!
