A book club dedicated to learning more about neurodiversity so we can better understand ourselves or our loved ones

Welcome to Scrap the Mask’s book club!

This month’s book is The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang.

This book club is for neurodivergent people AND friends and families of neurodivergent people to come together and discuss all things neurodiversity. Each book will cover a different aspect of neurodiversity, with this month’s book exploring themes of late-diagnosed autism and burnout through fiction.

It’s very rare that we get an opportunity to be open and honest about our neurodiversity and listen to other people sharing similar struggles. This book club is all about supporting one another as we learn more about ourselves or our loved ones.

Whether you want to learn more about neurodiversity, or you just want a safe space to share your experiences, this club has got you covered.

The club is held at Café Beam, which provides work experience for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties. The cafe is run by the Smile for Life Childrens Charity which is a fantastic North East based organisation that empowers people with disabilities to achieve their potential and live full and happy lives. The cafe sells tasty coffees and cakes with the most friendly service so it's the perfect place for our book club meetings.

Please read the book, or at least some of it, before this session so you will be able to engage with the group and get the most out of the discussions.
