The event presents William Shield's 1778 operatic masterpiece, The Flitch of Bacon, based on the ancient custom where couples happily married for a year and a day could claim a flitch of bacon. It features plenty of popular airs and original compositions from the late 18th century.

Rocket Opera provides the outstanding soloists, while the William Shield Chamber Orchestra performs under the direction of conductor Alexander Walls. This is the first performance in modern times of the work, presented in a new edition by Walls.
