As part of the 2026 Heritage Open Days Festival, join us for a free guided exploration of the St Mawes Castle, where you will learn about the prisoners and unruly soldiers who were kept there. You will receive free entry to the castle afterwards. The tour will take place on 15 September at 1:00 pm and will last approximately 1 hour. Please meet at the entrance to the castle. Booking is essential. Car parking is available, but is chargeable unless you are an English Heritage member.
St Mawes Castle and its sister fortress Pendennis Castle were built by Henry VIII to guard the important anchorage of Carrick Roads. You’ll get wonderful views of the sea and passing ships from the battlements.
