About This Event

The Cockleshell Dress will be on display at Lanhydrock as part of a recurring series of events. This particular exhibit is featured in the National Trust publication 100 Things To Wear and showcases a dress worn by Mary Agar-R.

Featured in the National Trust publication 100 Things To Wear, the Cockleshell Dress will be on display in the House this autumn.

Worn by Mary Agar-Robartes at an early twentieth-century fancy-dress party, the costume was inspired by the nursery rhyme Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, complete with silver bells and cockle shells. Decorated with shimmering metal threads, sequins and shell motifs, it is one of Lanhydrock's most distinctive costumes.

After seeing the dress, be inspired to party and practise your dance skills in the Bay Bedroom.
