The Community Festival walk on map reading will be held on 5 September 2026 at Belton Estate. The walk will explore the use of digital tools for navigation and their limitations. The event will begin at 10:15.
We are increasingly using digital tools to tell us where we are and how to get to somewhere else. These tools are amazing, but what happens when our battery dies, when GPS is lost, your phone falls in the river – or down the loo? Being able to map read can be a life saver, save time, and can be loads of fun! In this walk, we will explore all the essentials of map-reading from locating where we are, to plotting a route and going there, as well as identifying all the features on it. We will also introduce how to use a compass with your map.
This walk is part of Belton's Community Festival which offers free access to the whole estate across the weekend of 5 and 6 September 2026.
