Join graphic novelist Chie Hosaka for a free creative workshop on the 21st & 28th of November at the Nottingham Women's Centre.

Do you have a story to tell?

Making graphic novels or comics is a fantastic way to weave a complex story, especially based on our everyday life, into something that's tangible and accessible. It allows us to connect with yourself and others in a deep and meaningful way.

In this workshop, we will be making a 4 panel comic based on our lived experiences and observations. We will explore how drawing and text can work together creatively to tell a story through a series of creative writing and drawing exercises.

The workshop is in two parts across two Saturdays 21st & 28th of November at 10:30 to 12:30. It's essential you attend both days to experience the whole course.

I can't stress enough this part: NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!!! You don't need to be an expert draughtsperson or a writer to attend this workshop: just your enthusiasm and curiosity to explore them.

There will be pens, pencils and paper provided at the centre, however, I encourage you to bring your own writing/drawing tools that you are comfortable with, as well as a notepad, notebook, paper or sketchbook. If you haven't got access to them, don't worry. There will be some provided at the session.

A bit more about myself:

Chie Hosaka is a Japanese graphic novelist and illustrator based in Nottingham. The writing of her debut graphic novel, ‘Nina’, was supported using public funding through Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice grant and project grant. In 2025, ‘Nina’ was long-listed for the First Graphic Novel Award. Chie teaches Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University as a visiting lecturer.
