Join Nottingham's Nature Poet Laureate, Cara Thompson, for a Poetry

Picnic! For young people aged 7–13, accompanied by an adult.

Grab a paper plate and have a go at poetry! Through fun writing activities, games, and creative making, you'll explore the natural surroundings of Victoria Embankment and create your own poetry plate before contributing to a collaborative poetry tablecloth to complete our picnic.

No previous writing experience is needed, just bring your imagination (and a packed lunch)!

Workshop Plan

11:00 - 12:00: Create Your Nature Poetry Plate

● Welcome and introductions.

● Poetry warm-up games and creative prompts.

● Explore the surroundings for inspiration.

● Write and decorate your own nature-inspired poetry plate.

12:00 - 12:30: Lunch Break

● Enjoy your packed lunch and relax with other participants.

12:30 - 13:30: Create Our Group Nature Poetry Tablecloth

● Work together to create a collaborative poetry tablecloth.

● Add poems, words, and drawings inspired by nature and the day's activities.

13:30 - 14:00: Sharing and Farewell

● Share poetry plates and admire the finished tablecloth.

● Optional poetry readings.

● Celebrate everyone's work and say goodbye.
