About This Event

The Workhouse and Infirmary in Nottingham hosts 'Tales from The Workhouse' on 1 August 2026. Visitors can participate in historical activities such as slate-writing and oakum-picking, alongside meeting costumed characters to learn about life in the workhouse.

Meet our costumed characters and hear their stories as they go about their daily tasks in the workhouse. Try your hand at slate-writing, help with the washing or learn to pick oakum, activities that reflect the routines inmates followed. Listen to first-hand accounts of life within the institution during the storytelling sessions.

Three storytelling sessions take place at 11:30am, 12:30pm and 2pm, each lasting 30 minutes. Normal admission charges apply and last entry is one hour before closing.
