This webinar focuses on policy solutions to the core challenge of the energy transition – how do we balance national mitigation objectives with local acceptability? Hosted by the Hitachi-Imperial Centre for Decarbonisation for Natural Climate Solutions , we will hear from the authors of a recent Evidence Brief on the topic. Meeting net zero goals requires the deployment of renewables, batteries and grid infrastructure, yet host communities may resist these efforts. Resistance focuses on a range of issues including visual, noise, biodiversity or heritage impacts, and a general perception that those affected bear a burden but do not receive benefits. Our research focuses on solutions to redress this imbalance between perceived costs and benefits, and especially solutions that improve planning processes or allow communities to financially benefit.
