A training day for all clergy exploring the realities of caring for open and closed churchyards, legally, pastorally, practically, theologically and environmentally. Sessions are led by Revd Dr Patrick Gilday, Rector of Benson & Ewelme, Darren Oliver, Diocesan Registrar, and Alison Riggs, Environment Action Delivery Coordinator. They will aim to cover:

• A broad exploration of English law and ecclesiatical regulations relating to churchyards

• Familiarity with the diocesan guidelines and an understanding of where to turn for guidance and help

• Reflection on the practical challenges of applying rules pastorally, missionally and legally through a churchyard tour and case studies

• The theological potential of churchyards as 'God's acre'

• Examples of creative environmental and creation-care approaches to churchyard management and use
