Join us for a free co-design workshops in collaboration with Compost Mentis, to help come up with a new and improved compost toilet! Do you have ideas about what would make the perfect toilet at the Children’s Allotment? Would you like to learn more about how compost toilets work, and how to make them accessible to our whole community? Over 3 afternoons in September and October we will learn, dream and draw together to come up with a final design which we will build together later in 2026-7. You can come to all the workshops, or just one, and no previous knowledge of building is needed. Sessions will cover: What compost toilets are and how they work Different compost toilet design and systems Choosing the right location Access needs and Disability Justice in green spaces Choosing the right materials Collective designing and decision making There will be crafting, microscope gazing, games and snacks, so bring everyone and anyone with an opinion about toilets! Accessibility information: While the site has level access with ramps, the ground is uneven, rough in places, and can become muddy. Surfaces are a mixture of rough concrete, tiling, AstroTurf and grass. The entrance to the site has a steep ramp. Entrances to the indoor spaces have a 3cm lip - ramps and support with them will be available. There is an accessible compost toilet, a urinal on ground level, and an additional compost toilet which is up 4 steps with a handrail. Details: Workshop 1: Sunday 20th September 1pm-5pm Workshop 2: Saturday 26th September 1pm-5pm Workshop 3: Sunday 4th October 1pm-5pm *** While tickets for this event are free, they are limited to a small group. We encourage you to let us know if you can't make it so that we can plan, and offer your space to somebody else. If you have any questions about accessibility not covered above, please email thechildrensallotment@gmail.com
