The Historical Guided Tour of Hill End will bring the history of Hill End 'Camp' to life with a guided tour of the grounds and heritage dormitories on 13 September 2026 at Hill End Outdoor Education Centre in Oxford.
Celebrate 100 years of Hill End 'Camp' with a guided tour of beautiful grounds and heritage dormitories.
Every year, Oxford Open Doors invites people to step inside some of the city and county’s most fascinating historic buildings, places that are often closed to the public or rarely explored in depth. Organised by the Oxford Preservation Trust, the festival celebrates Oxford’s rich heritage, architecture, and stories, and gives everyone the chance to discover the places that have shaped our communities.
As one of Oxford’s most unique heritage sites, Hill End has a remarkable history: from its origins as a pioneering outdoor education centre to the generations of schoolchildren, teachers, and visitors who have experienced its special landscape and buildings over the past century.
This year is particularly meaningful as we celebrate 100 years of Hill End. As part of Oxford Open Doors, we’ll be offering a special guided history tour where visitors can explore the site, hear stories from its past, and discover how Hill End continues to inspire learning, wellbeing, and a connection with nature today.
Whether you have fond memories of Hill End, an interest in local history, or simply want to explore somewhere beautiful, we’d love to welcome you. Come and celebrate a century of Hill End with us and be part of Oxford’s biggest heritage festival!
