The event titled 'How would Jesus respond to Christian Nationalism?' will occur on 23 November 2026 at New Road Baptist Church, starting at 19:00. This discussion aims to address the use of Christianity as a tool of division and explore appropriate Christian responses. Admission is free.
At a time when Christianity is being used by many as a tool of division, how should Christians respond?
Join Just Love Oxford on November 23rd to welcome Tommy and Poppy Sharpe, from the Better Story movement, alongside Dr Krish Kandiah, broadcaster and founder of the Sanctuary Foundation, for an honest and thought-provoking conversation about the rise of Christian nationalism in the UK.
We'll explore the rise of Christian nationalism, its meaning and relationship to the Christian faith, and how Christians can respond to narratives of hatred and exclusion while offering a different vision of faith in public life.
Doors open at 7pm, and we'll be in New Road Baptist Church (14 Bonn Square).
Speakers
Tommy and Poppy Sharpe are the cofounders of Christian movement Better Story (https://betterstory.info). Better Story is a movement of Christians who believe in Jesus' radical call to compassion, hospitality, and self-sacrificial generosity. With ideologies of hate and division on the rise - and many appealing to Christianity to advance their position - they are working to provide a uniquely Christian response rooted in love for neighbour and enemy.
Dr Krish Kandiah (OBE) (https://krishk.com/) is the founder of The Sanctuary Foundation (https://sanctuaryfoundation.org.uk), a charity supporting refugees to find welcome, work and worthwhile housing in the UK. He is recognised as an expert in refugee resettlement, child welfare reform, educational innovation and civil society mobilisation. He is a regular advisor to government, and has been a regular guest across broadcasting media, including BBC Breakfast, BBC News 24 and the Today Programme.
