OxFirst Club will bring together senior decision-makers from industry, the judiciary, patent offices, competition authorities & litigators

OxFirst Club will host its 15th IP & Competition Forum on 13-14 January 2027 at the University of Oxford. The Forum will bring together senior decision-makers from industry, the judiciary, patent offices, competition authorities and private practice to examine global patent enforcement, licensing, SEPs and FRAND, competition policy and the Unified Patent Court.

The Forum will feature perspectives from leading courts and institutions, including the UK Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, the High Court of England and Wales, the Unified Patent Court, the Commercial Court of Brazil and the Patent Court of Korea. It will also include senior industry and market perspectives from the wider OxFirst Forum community, including Amazon, BMW Group, BSH Hausgeräte, ByteDance, Dell Technologies, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Giesecke+Devrient, Harman, HP, Huawei, LG Electronics, Nokia, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, Xiaomi, RPX and Access Advance.

The Forum will focus on how patent disputes now shape market access, licensing negotiations, investment decisions, product strategy and international technology competition. At a time when technology markets are increasingly interconnected, patent enforcement has become a matter of business strategy as much as legal doctrine.

Key themes will include standard-essential patents, FRAND licensing, injunctions, cross-border enforcement, global rate-setting, competition policy and the role of the Unified Patent Court in the international patent landscape.

“Patent enforcement has become a matter of international strategy,” said Professor Roya Ghafele, convenor of the Forum and Managing Director of OxFirst. “Injunctions, standard-essential patents and global licensing disputes are no longer isolated legal questions. They shape market access, competition and the global economic order.”

The Oxford Forum will provide a high-level platform for judicial, institutional, industry and economic perspectives on the next phase of global patent enforcement.
