The Rebel Book Club Oxford will host an event in association with MODERN LOVE, featuring a discussion of Paul Eastwick's book, Bonded by Evolution, at Gulp Fiction in Oxford on 2026-09-17. The event will explore the theme of MODERN LOVE. The ticket price is £16.96.
Join us for RBC's AUGUST event as we explore this month's theme, MODERN LOVE, via Paul Eastwick's book, Bonded by Evolution.
About the book:
We're told men and women want different things from love: he wants novelty, she wants commitment, he's chasing looks, she's chasing status. Psychology professor Paul Eastwick says this popular "evolutionary" story is unscientific, and sometimes dangerous. Drawing on original research from his own lab, he reveals a more hopeful truth: attraction isn't about hierarchies of 10s and 2s, it's about finding, and often building, real compatibility.
Why we chose it: "Rarely have scientific rigour and exuberant optimism been such congenial companions." - Eric Klinenberg, co-author of Modern Romance
Delicious drinks are included, as well as engaging storytelling and space for conversations and sharing.
Interested? Want to join us at our August event?
Try out the club with Eventbrite - new customers only. Ticket price includes access to the Oxford Rebel Book Club event plus a welcome drink (alcoholic + non-alcoholic options available).
Your host for the evening: Andie
Originally from Bilbao, Spain, Andie works in public relations for businesses in the renewable energy sector. In her free time, she's a voracious reader, book blogger and amateur runner. Having spent part of her 20s living in Baku and Moscow has made her drawn to Soviet history and she can't resist a good spy biography.
Andie believes that books are the answer to every question and there is no better tool to help us understand how the world and people work. She's leading RBC Oxford hoping to continue spreading the love for knowledge through a supportive and fun community that comes together for engaging conversations, growing a little with each book and discussion.
Andie's non-fiction recommendations:
1. Agent Sonya by Ben MacIntyre
2. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight
3. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
