About This Event

The Laugh Room is a theatre event at Summertown Arts Community in Oxford. The line-up features headliner Michael Odewale, Amy Matthews, Blank Peng, Samira Banks, and MC Darshan Sanghrajka. Tickets are £16.00.

MICHAEL ODEWALE IS HEADLINING!

Emmy nominated & BAFTA winning Writer / Performer, Michael Odewale has fast gained recognition for his distinctive comic style.

A fresh and unfiltered voice known for delivering sharp and beautifully executed content, his debut show #BlackBearsMatter won Best Show at both the 2019 Leicester Comedy Festivals and achieved critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019, earning him a nomination for Best Newcomer in the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

In 2022 he released his first stand up special Michael Odewale: Live at Soho Theatre for Amazon Prime and has since gone on to work on a host of shows including Dreaming Whilst Black (BBC), Cunk on Earth (BBC), Death to 2022 (Netflix) and Ben Elton’s Friday Night Live (C4).

His impressive performance credits include Live at The Apollo (BBC), Friday Night Live (C4) and Live from The Moth Club (Dave).

In 2025 Michael was selected for the British Comedy Guide New Big Thing Award, won Best Headliner at the Chortle Awards and was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for his work on Cunk On Life.

Michael also fronts Channel 4’s weekly comedy podcast series A New Thing.

AMY MATTHEWS

Amy’s intelligent, distinctive and warm stand up has earned her a glittering arrival on the comedy scene. Lily Allen meets Kate McKinnon (Broadway World) in comedic force, as Amy weaves in and out of wry despair and whimsical imagination.

Blank Peng is making her mark as one of the UK’s most distinctive and compelling new comedy talents. Her sharp observations on culture, identity, and everyday life have quickly garnered her industry recognition.

Invited to perform as part of the Capital Xtra Comedy Gala and has tour-supported some of the country’s top comedians, including: Babatunde Aléshé (Taskmaster), Nabil Abdulrashid (Britain’s Got Talent), and Henning Wehn (Would I Lie to You). In 2025, she reached the London Finals of the BBC New Comedy Award and made her UK television debut on BBC Three. She has also lent her talents opening for The Last Leg (CH4)

SAMIRA BANKS

Samira Banks has been making waves on the UK circuit since bursting on to the scene winning the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? Competition in 2023 and has been a finalist in competitions such as the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year and the Sean Lock Awards, and has appeared on TV as part of the BBC New Comedy Awards.

Shas acted as tour support for well known acts including Michael Odewale, Ali Woods and Eshaan Akbar. A personal highlight for her this year was opening for Stephen Merchant’s WIP. Samira has appeared at the BBC Comedy Festival, the Kilkenny Comedy Festival and Latitude Festival. She will also be appearing on BBC Asian Network’s ‘One More Laugh’ this year. Her razor sharp wit paired with her unique perspective are sure to make her a household name – and she continues to leave the audience in stitches with her dead pan delivery and devastating punchlines that seem to come from nowhere.

Samira is fluent in German and Spanish and often does Spanish speaking gigs having opened for Netflix’s Sofia Niño de Rivera at the Clapham Grand. She carries her talents beyond the stage by writing for BBC Radio 4’s, The News Quiz. She has also written comedy sketches for commercial advertising campaigns.
