This course is perfect for young people aged 14 years+, particularly those still in school who are interested in pursuing a future career in the fitness industry.
The Active IQ Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity is designed to introduce learners to the fundamentals of exercise, fitness, healthy lifestyles, and the active leisure sector. It also helps build confidence in a gym and fitness environment.
You will take part in a combination of practical and theory-based sessions, covering key areas such as:
Fitness training
Basic anatomy
Working with others in a fitness setting
During the course, you will learn how to perform and demonstrate a range of fitness activities, including:
Cardiovascular exercise
Resistance training
Strength-based exercises
You will also develop the skills to support and guide your peers, building confidence to assist with basic gym inductions.
This qualification is a great first step into the fitness industry, helping to develop your knowledge, confidence, and practical skills

LEAD Sport Programme
This course forms part of the LEAD Sport (Leadership, Employability and Development in Sport) programme for young people in Perth and Kinross.
Supported by the Gannochy Trust, the programme offers opportunities for pupils to gain introductory coaching and leadership qualifications while developing key life skills such as communication, confidence, and teamwork.
Participants are encouraged to complete 12 hours of volunteering within a school or community sports setting. (This is not required for Aspiring Coaches.)
Your Active Schools Coordinator can support you in finding a suitable placement. These hours may also contribute towards awards such as the Saltire Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Terms and Conditions
Eligibility
This course is supported by Perth and Kinross Education Services and is available only to pupils attending Perth and Kinross Council schools.
Registration Information
Information such as medical details, emergency contacts, and photo consent is collected during registration and must be completed accurately.
Supervision
The course is delivered by the Active Schools and Sports Development Team. Please note that school staff will not be present.
Travel Arrangements
Participants (or their parents/carers) are responsible for arranging transport to and from the venue.
Course Requirements
The course may include work to be completed before, during, and after the sessions. All required components must be completed to achieve the qualification.
Additional Support Needs
If you have any additional support needs, please inform us in advance so that we can make appropriate arrangements.
Booking Confirmation
You will receive confirmation of your place via email through the Eventbrite registration system.
