The Perth Charter House was a monastic house of Carthusian Monks built in 1439 but much of it destroyed by protestant reformers in 1559.
The Perth Charterhouse Project is an attempt to locate the actual site and to unearth one of Scotland's most intriguing secrets - the burial place of King James the First who was murdered in Perth's Blackfriars Monastery in 1437 and also the tomb of his wife Joan Beaufort Queen of Scots.
For three centuries after its foundation, Perth was the residence of kings, the meeting place of parliaments and the seat of government.
