About This Event

The final community evening event celebrating the Westings Project will be hosted at Helpston village hall on 19 November 2026. This event will feature stories, history, and conversation, with no admission fee.

A final evening celebrating the Westings Project with stories, history and conversation

For more than 550 years, the three-mile stretch of meadow between Helpston, Maxey, Glinton, Northborough and Etton was shared by local communities. Then came Enclosure, industry, gravel extraction and Maxey Cut, transforming the landscape almost beyond recognition. Now parts of that land are being given back to nature.

Over the past months the Westings Project has been gathering the stories of this changing landscape, from medieval common land and the countryside known by John Clare to the nature recovery happening there today. Working with local people, schools and our team of history detectives, we’ve recorded oral histories, created portraits and stitched stories of the land into our Westings shepherd’s smock artwork.

Join us for a FREE evening celebrating the project as it comes to a close. See the exhibition, hear about what we discovered and meet the history detectives who have been at the heart of it all. Bring your own memories and questions too.

Hear from artist-researcher Kathryn Parsons [and other speakers TBC] about the project and what we discovered along the way. There will also be a chance to share your own thoughts and memories and to tell us what the project has meant to you.

Please let us know if you have accessibility requirements. Everyone is welcome.

The project is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, supported by the Environment Agency.

This is a publicly funded event. Please note that non-attendees who do not cancel in advance of the event so that their tickets can be allocated to the waitlist will be charged the fee of £25 per ticket.
