From Soya to Sustainability 2027
Pulses and the Road to Resilience
How homegrown pulses deliver for a more sustainable livestock sector.
Tuesday 26 January 2027 | 9am–4pm
KingsGate Conference Centre, Peterborough
How can UK-grown pulses help build a more profitable, productive and resilient farming sector? And what needs to change to increase their production and use in livestock feed?
Returning for its third year, From Soya to Sustainability brings together farmers, researchers, industry and policymakers to explore these questions and the practical steps needed to reduce dependence on imported soya.
Organised by partners in the Nitrogen Climate Smart (NCS) project, the conference will draw on evidence from arable and livestock trials to examine how homegrown pulses can help deliver the ambitions of Defra’s Farming Roadmap 2050.
What to expect
Insights from on-farm research: Discover what NCS trials have revealed about pulse production, their value in arable rotations and their potential in livestock diets.
Expert speakers and panel discussions: Explore the barriers to growing and using more UK pulses, and what farmers, businesses and government can do to overcome them.
A focus on practical action: Discuss what is needed to build a resilient homegrown pulse supply chain, with poultry providing a key case study alongside perspectives from the wider livestock sector.
Opportunities to connect: Meet farmers, researchers and businesses, explore project findings and discuss what they could mean for your own farm or organisation.
Confirmed speakers and chairs include:
Tom Allen-Stevens, opening and chairing the conference.
Thomas Wilkinson, ADAS, sharing arable insights from the project’s farmer triallists and research partners.
John McArthur, McArthur Agriculture and BritPulse, exploring livestock feeding trial findings, including the potential to partially replace imported soya with UK-grown beans and the effect of processing on their nutritional value.
James Webster-Rusk, examining the commercial barriers to greater pulse use and proposals to support change.
Bryony Graham, bringing a pulse grower’s perspective to the discussion.
Graham Redman, chairing a panel on practical steps for industry and government.
Further speakers and programme details will be announced ahead of the event.
Whether you grow pulses, use them in livestock feed, work in research or help shape agricultural policy, join us to explore how we can turn the evidence into action.
Book your place and be part of the discussion.
