About This Event
The Introduction to CNC Milling course, hosted by Fab Lab South West, runs over three sessions at Arts University Plymouth. It is aimed at beginners and costs £595. The course will take place on 4 November 2026 from 14:00.
This three session course hosted by Fab Lab South West is suitable for beginners who want to get started with CNC Milling.
Fab Lab South West is an active workshop and digital fabrication space, the perfect environment for practical learning and exploration.
During this course, you will have the opportunity to explore our range of CNC Mills including our MDX-40a, MDX-540 and Roland Mini Mills.

Wednesday 4 November 2026, 2pm - 5pm
Wednesday 11 November 2026, 2pm - 5pm
Wednesday 18 November 2026, 2pm - 5pm
This course will cover:
Understanding how CNC milling works (including health and safety, materials, limitations),
Toolpathing strategies for milling operations,
Understanding feeds, speeds, and cutter choices,
Basic machine operation and maintenance,
General troubleshooting.
No prior knowledge of CNC milling is required, although basic machine competency would be desirable, as well as a basic understanding of Fusion360 software.
Within six months of completion, students are eligible to apply for the Workroom Create Programme, for continued membership access to Fab Lab South West to continue their self-led skill development.
