Interconnected Threads: The Things We Carry

What stories are hidden inside an ice-cream container? Why does a particular sound remind us of home? How can an internet meme connect strangers across continents?

Led by Singaporean author Erni Salleh and British Burmese poet Amy Hardingson, this gentle outdoor experience invites participants to slow down, notice their surroundings and explore the connections between landscape, memory and culture. Through a series of stops in the New Forest, participants will encounter everyday objects, sensory prompts, poetry and stories drawn from East and Southeast Asian experiences, while reflecting on their own memories, traditions and communities.

This event is designed to be welcoming for all ages regardless of your background, though we encourage participants of East and Southeast Asian heritage to join us. The workshop will take place in a fully accessible venue. The walk, however, follows a route with uneven ground and natural terrain, which may present accessibility challenges for wheelchair users and others with mobility requirements. We are be happy to discuss the route and any access needs in advance.

Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England as part of ArtfulScribe's literature development programme in the New Forest.

SpudWorks Art Gallery and Creative Hub is located in the middle of the village of Sway, just a two-minute walk from Sway Railway Station, which is conveniently on the mainline between London and Poole
