What if everything in Portsmouth was designed to be creepy?

Travel to Portsmouth in 2126 and imagine a future where unsettling technology has become part of everyday life.

Led by Dr Argenis Ramirez Gomez, this playful Speculative Design workshop invites participants to explore how future technologies could shape the way we live, connect and experience the world. Using humour, storytelling and collaborative creativity, you'll imagine strange future objects and ask important questions about what we value, and what we might be willing to surrender.

Working through drawing, storytelling and rapid prototyping, you'll develop imaginative design fictions inspired by future technologies. You'll also have the opportunity to transform your ideas into mixed-media artefacts using Generative Artificial Intelligence, with selected works contributing to a collection of 3D-printed sculptures presented at a public follow-up event.

No design experience is needed, just curiosity, imagination and a willingness to experiment.

About the Facilitator

Dr Argenis Ramirez Gomez is a Senior Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Portsmouth's School of Film, Media and Creative Technologies. His work explores how emerging technologies may shape the ways we live, interact and experience the world through speculative, playful and provocative design.
