About This Event

A practical session exploring how to turn organisational priorities and existing workforce data into useful people analytics projects. People analytics doesn’t need to start with sophisticated technology, specialist software or advanced statistics. It can start much more simply: with a problem the organisation needs to solve and the data we already have. This session will look at how HR and people professionals can move beyond reporting workforce metrics and use data to support better decisions. We’ll consider what is happening in the wider organisation, what leaders are trying to achieve and how those priorities can be turned into useful people questions. Participants will work with a real priority or challenge from their own organisation, look at what data they already have, identify what might be missing and start to shape a realistic first people analytics project. We’ll cover: moving from HR reporting towards using data to support decisions spotting the organisational priorities and pressures where people analytics could help turning business priorities into useful people questions choosing projects that are relevant, actionable and feasible making better use of existing HR, workforce and organisational data working with gaps and limitations in the data shaping a manageable first people analytics project communicating findings in language that matters to the wider organisation No specialist software, coding or advanced statistical knowledge is needed. Participants are encouraged to come with a current organisational challenge or priority that they can use during the practical activities. By the end of the session, participants should be able to: recognise the difference between reporting HR metrics and using people analytics to support decisions identify organisational priorities where people analytics could be useful turn an organisational problem into a focused people question judge whether a potential project is relevant, actionable and feasible identify which existing data could help answer their question leave with an idea for a realistic people analytics project they could take forward in their organisation Speaker’s bio Kristina Risley FCIPD, GMBPsS, FHEA Kristina is a lecturer, researcher and consultant specialising in game-based learning, leadership development and organisational psychology. She teaches BA Games Design at the University of Southampton and is Programme Leader for Cambridge University’s people analytics executive training programme in partnership with Emeritus. As Director of Cognita Consulting, Kristina’s consultancy work focuses on helping organisations understand and address people and organisational challenges, using evidence and workforce insight to inform practical HR, organisational development and leadership solutions. Her research explores leadership identity and soft skills development through learning games. Before moving to academia, Kristina spent 10 years in senior HR roles, primarily in the NHS. She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, a member of the Division of Occupational Psychology for the BPS and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
