Stonehenge sits in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes. This context adds much to our understanding of Neolithic and early Bronze Age Wessex through the collection of pre-historic monuments. Monuments to visited are Woodhenge, Cuckoo Stone, Durrington Walls, the Cursus and long barrow, Old and New Kings Barrows and observation of Stonehenge along the Avenue. Parking is free by Woodhenge, the car park at SU151434, or on road nearby.
Directions: Turn left off to Woodhenge from the A345, about 1.5km (one mile) north of the Countess Roundabout (where the A345 crosses.the A 303 at Amesbury). There is a carpark at a bend of this road about300m from the junction with the main road. We will meet in the carpark and proceed to the Woodhenge compound opposite the carpark.
Stonehenge itself will not be visited. Length of walk c. 5km (3 miles)
Please make sure this distance is suitable for you. Wear suitable footwear, it may be uneven underfoot. There are no facilities, so please bring your own refreshments and suitable outdoor clothing.
