The 49th Scarborough Congress & Club Championship, one of the UK’s largest chess tournaments, will run from 23 October 2026 at the Spa Complex in Scarborough with an expected entry of up to 500 players.
This will be Scarboroughs 49th Congress and is one of the biggest tournaments in the UK with an expected entry level approaching 500.
Hosted at the Spa Complex which overlooks the bay of Scarborough close to the town centre. Over £7000 is in the prize fund with £1000 top prize in the Open.

But this is not just a congress for individuals – we now run a Club Championship using players performances during the congress and £500 will be awarded to the best performing Club. Ilkley’s ‘The Chess Centre’ are the current champions from 2025.
