About This Event

CINEMINI will take place at Hayes Village Hall on 22 November 2026. This event features short films and sensory play for young children, focusing on light, shadow, colours, and movement.

Short films and free play in our light playground, exploring light, shadow, colours and movement.

Cinemini is Small World Cinema’s playful film event for under-5s, offering a magical first cinema experience for young children and their families.

Carefully chosen short films are combined with creative play and hands-on activities to spark imagination and curiosity, with plenty to talk about long after the screening ends. These relaxed, family-friendly sessions are perfect for first-time cinema-goers.

We begin the session by watching a few short films (approx 15/20 mins), mostly without dialogue, ranging from animation and artist films to short documentaries.

Afterwards, children are invited to explore our specially created film playground, experimenting with colour, movement, light and shadow.

We finish by watching the films again, allowing children to make connections between what they saw on screen and what they discovered through play. Children love the repetition!

"Small world cinema values how young children learn best—through exploration, creativity, and hands-on play. The children were fascinated by the short films. The session sparked our children's imaginations and stimulated talk and interaction. Our children loved engaging with the wide variety of resources from light-up domes and light boxes to moving picture books and puppets."

Clare Gerstel, Assistant Headteacher, Kimberworth Community Primary School

The workshop was really great! My 4 year old and I really enjoyed it. There was a lovely mix of films and activity. Saskia created a really informal and positive atmosphere which made adults and kids comfortable to explore. My son is still at the age when concentrating can be tricky, but he was engaged and gripped throughout because of variety on offer.
