This event presents a rare opportunity to engage directly with the filmmaker and explore the narratives of diverse Asian voices on the big screen.

Join us for Carrie Shen’s short film screening followed by a fun director Q&A session in person!

Join the Hong Kong Community Hub for an afternoon of short films and conversation with Carrie Shen, a Hong Kong-born, London-based writer and filmmaker whose work explores memory, displacement, belonging, relationships and loss.

The screening brings together four of Shen’s short films made across different stages of her creative practice:

Fun Fair (2026)

Lucas and Lily can only meet in the afterlife. Bound to different places, their brief reunions depend on the return of a travelling fair. When Lucas offers Lily the chance to take his place, the possibility of returning to Hong Kong forces them to confront love, separation and what it means to let someone go.

Playground (2026)

On the eve of her departure from the UK, Mavis pulls her friend Cassie into one final night of chaos. A coming-of-age story about friendship, loss and the traces people leave behind.

In Your Shoe (2024)

A story of unspoken desire and unrequited love, following a group of friends whose feelings remain just out of reach. The film asks whether love necessarily depends on being together.

White White (2024)

After the disappearance of his girlfriend, recent immigrant Jiu turns his attention to her white potted plant. As the plant slowly withers, the film reflects on grief, solitude, abandonment and emotional stagnation through a restrained visual style.

Following the screening, Carrie will join us for an in-person discussion and audience Q&A, reflecting on her filmmaking practice, migration and diaspora, and the relationship between personal memory and collective experience.
